Neuro research in virtual reality with animals

I once spent time investigating a full immersive setup for evaluating and treating psychosis together with a psychiatrist. That one was for humans, but it seems to be a lot easier to start off this kind of investigation with insects and animals, as the ethical boundaries are less strict.

As a result, it has become “one of these weird things” that has unexpectedly taken off in the research community. Whereas virtual reality previously only existed in specialized, high-profile labs, now any lab with a few thousand dollars can build its own system for testing animals.
